Edmonton is on the Trans-Canada Yellowhead Highway, considered the most reliable, quickest route across Canada. Edmonton is 514 km (320 miles) north of the Montana, USA/Canada boarder.

Driver’s licenses from all countries are valid in the province of Alberta for up to three months. Proof of insurance must also be carried, and you must wear seat belts.

All highway signs in Alberta give distances in kilometers and speeds in kilometers per hour (kph). Numbers rather then names designate the majority of streets and avenues in Edmonton, making it easy to locate addresses. Numbered avenues run east and west; numbered streets run north and south.

Taxis are usually available at hotels, shopping centres and major venues. In areas with out a taxi stand, it’s usually quicker to call for service rather then hail a taxi.
