Shaw Conference Centre displays local student art
pARTnership Gallery showcases hundreds of art pieces
In partnership with the Works Art and Design Festival, local students will present their works of art at the Shaw Conference Centre (SCC) for the second annual pARTnership Gallery event today:
Date: June 23, 2011
Location: Shaw Conference Centre, Hall D
9797 Jasper Avenue
Student artwork will be showcased on the pedway level of the SCC, adjacent to Hall D. A joint initiative of the SCC and Edmonton Public Schools, the pARTnership gallery highlights the work of local student artists to promote excellence in public education at all grade levels.
“We are thrilled to showcase the artwork of young artists in the Edmonton community,” said Ron Gilbertson, president and CEO of Edmonton Economic Development Corporation. “I am excited to have such wonderful pieces on display in a high-traffic location. As the Shaw Conference Centre attracts countless events and visitors from around the world, the artwork will be seen by hundreds of thousands of people.”
For 10-year-old Ethan Happer, the pARTnership gallery is an opportunity to display his talent as a budding artist in Edmonton. Inspired by the Scottish flag and images of his grandparents, Ethan’s self-portrait will be among the many pieces to adorn the walls of the SCC, the Centre for Education Building, Kids in the Hall Bistro at City Hall, Alberta Teachers Association building and the Edmonton International Airport.
Each piece, to tell its own unique story, reflects Edmonton Public Schools’ art program as it plays a critical role in establishing a high standard for art and creative problem solving.
Nearly 1,100 pieces of student art were submitted by 38 schools in the Edmonton Public Schools district. A committee of teachers with art experience judged the submissions and selected approximately 275 pieces of artwork for all community and partnership exhibitions in Edmonton. Thirty-two pieces from students ranging from Grade 1 to Grade 12 will be on display in the Shaw pARTnership gallery.
Note: representatives from EPS, the SCC and selected students will be available for comment/interviews at the conclusion of the event.
