Summer festival season officially underway

In concert with this year’s Tourism Week in Canada — an annual nation-wide celebration to profile Canada’s $70 billion tourism industry — Mayor Stephen Mandel has formally proclaimed this week (June 2-8) Tourism Week in Edmonton.

Tourism Week in Edmonton officially launches our region’s many summer festivals including (to name a few):

  • The Edmonton International Jazz Festival (June 20-29)
  • The Edmonton International Street Performers Festival (July 4-13)
  • Edmonton’s Capital Ex (July 17-26)
  • Edmonton Heritage Festival (Aug. 2-4)
  • Edmonton Folk Music Festival (Aug. 7-10)
  • Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival (Aug. 14-24)
  • Symphony Under the Sky Festival (Aug. 29-Sept. 1)

Edmonton is also renowned for hosting world-class major events. Here are four must-see major events in Edmonton this summer:

  • The Rexall Edmonton Indy (July 24-26)
  • World Junior AAA Baseball Championship (July 25-Aug. 3)
  • Body Worlds 1 at Telus World of Science (June 13-Oct.13)
  • Dragons – Between Science and Fiction at the Royal Alberta Museum (June 14-Sept. 14)

“Edmonton’s tourism industry generates more than $1 billion in regional revenue and employs 15,000-plus people,” says Ken Fiske, Vice-President of Tourism, Events and Motion Pictures for Edmonton Economic Development Corporation. “Summer is a time for our industry to showcase the quality and dynamism of our diverse regional attractions.”
