June 24, 2008 - Shaw Conference Centre turns 25 this Sunday (June 22)
Edmonton’s Shaw Conference Centre (SCC) — Greater Edmonton's flagship hospitality venue and one of Canada's most respected conventions venues — is celebrating 25 years of success this summer.
SCC was officially opened on June 22, 1983 by Premier Peter Lougheed and Mayor Cec Purves. In the last 25 years it has hosted thousands of events attended by millions of people — including a luminary list of visiting dignitaries.
Most importantly, SCC has ably fulfilled its mandate to help make Edmonton a compelling destination within North America’s highly competitive convention industry. The regional economic impact of SCC’s annual business activities is currently estimated to be $48 million.
“The most enduring impression of Edmonton for countless convention delegates over the past 25 years is the Shaw Conference Centre,” says Mike Fitzpatrick, SCC’s General Manager and a VP with Edmonton Economic Development Corp. which manages the conference centre. “We’re very proud of this facility’s well-deserved reputation for operational excellence thanks to the outstanding teamwork and professionalism of many talented staff over the years.”
