July 30, 2008 - Kindness advocate coming home to inspire non-profit sector

Debbie Riopel to speak at Everyone for Edmonton! on Aug. 23

Debbie Riopel, a founding member of the World Kindness Movement, is coming home to Edmonton to deliver an inspiring message about the power of kindness to hundreds of non-profit sector workers.

Ms. Riopel will be presenting at Everyone for Edmonton! — an unprecedented regional event for non-profit organizations to showcase their community role and recruit volunteers / staff. The event will also be an opportunity for community-minded citizens to discover hundreds of meaningful volunteer opportunities.

Ms. Riopel is a visionary, teacher, certified life coach, qigong instructor and a life-long volunteer. She believes strongly in every person’s ability to make a positive difference and will deliver an empowering presentation in Edmonton entitled Heroes for a Better World.

In 1995, Ms. Riopel (and her sister, Colleen Ring) brought Random Acts of Kindness Week to Edmonton (and Canada). In 1997, she became a founding member of the World Kindness Movement. And in 2002-03, she took a nine-month journey to 15 countries with her husband to create the insightful documentary A World of Kindness.

Everyone for Edmonton! is a no-charge event for both exhibitors and the public. The Shaw Conference Centre (SCC) is producing this unique event and absorbing all costs as part of its 25th anniversary celebration.

More than 200 local non-profit organizations have already registered for Everyone for Edmonton! Non-profit organizations can still register by e-mailing everyoneforedmonton@edmonton.com or calling (780) 969-0488.

Arts & Culture

"Every city should be so lucky to have a place like Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre for its performing arts center. Inside this spacious and airy enclave are four theaters, presenting everything from off-Broadway items to kids’ plays".
