More than 200 organizations already registered for unprecedented event on Aug. 23

Regional community leaders and non-profit organizations gathered at the Shaw Conference Centre this morning to rally public and media support for an extraordinary community event.

Janice Bell, the Executive Director of Volunteer Edmonton (VE) and Russ Dahms, the Executive Director of the Edmonton Chamber of Voluntary Organizations (ECVO) spoke to an enthusiastic crowd of non-profit representatives about the importance of supporting Everyone for Edmonton! on Aug. 23 at the Shaw Conference Centre.

“If you want to get better connected to your community or create greater meaning for your life … this event will offer hundreds of meaningful volunteer experiences under one roof,” says Bell. “Every person has something unique to offer and an opportunity to make a difference in our community.”

“Edmonton’s non-profit sector currently has a critical shortage of volunteers and staff; there are countless opportunities for good people,” says Dahms. “This event will also be a unique opportunity to learn about hundreds of dynamic community organizations and connect with community-minded citizens in a family-friendly environment.”

The event on Aug. 23 will include an inspiring presentation on the power of kindness by Debbie Riopel, a former St. Albert teacher who became a co-founder of the World Kindness Movement in 1997. Riopel’s presentation — Heroes for a Better World — begins at 9 a.m. Everyone for Edmonton! follows in the Shaw Conference Centre (Halls A, B and C) until 4:30 p.m.

Everything is free — including the entertainers and birthday cake for everyone in celebration of the Shaw Conference Centre’s 25th anniversary.
