World’s travel writers meet in Edmonton
Edmonton first-time host, shows off region to visitors
Edmonton (September 14, 2011) — Travel writers from across Canada and around the world gather in Edmonton as Alberta's capital city hosts, for the first time, GoMedia Canada Marketplace September 18-22.
Presented by the Canadian Tourism Commission, GoMedia is the premier annual travel media event where 130 Canadian travel organizations tell 125 hand-picked Canadian and international journalists one-on-one about Canadian destinations. Media take away new Canadian stories and leave with memorable experiences.
Edmonton successfully bid on the prestigious event last fall, with the support of Edmonton’s Destination Marketing hotels, Travel Alberta’s Edmonton and Area Tourism Destination Region, and industry partners.
GoMedia kicks off with an Edmonton Festival City Opening Reception on September 19, hosted by Edmonton Tourism at the Art Gallery of Alberta.
Note to editors: As this is a closed event, media interested in attending the 7 – 10 pm event are asked to RSVP by September 16.
A notable benefit, as host city, is that the conference program includes media tours of Greater Edmonton’s diverse attractions on September 19. Delegates will attend GoMedia at Shaw Conference Centre, set amidst North America's largest urban parkland, and stay at downtown Edmonton hotels — experiencing the city's fall colours.
During the media marketplace, tourism representatives and journalists meet in a fast-paced, speed-dating format, one-on-one 15-minute appointments.
Edmonton Economic Development Corporation (EEDC) provides leadership in economic development, markets Edmonton as a must-see destination, manages the Shaw Conference Centre and Edmonton Research Park, and acts as a stakeholder in TEC Edmonton, a joint venture with the University of Alberta.
