Homeless Connect Edmonton - Sunday, Oct. 4th at Shaw Conference Centre

Homeward Trust and the Shaw Conference Centre invite all interested media to attend Homeless Connect - Edmonton this Sunday, Oct 4, 2009. Homeless Connect Edmonton is community-inspired and brings together agencies, businesses and volunteers to provide a wide range of free services to Edmonton’s homeless population and those on the verge of becoming homeless.

Date: Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009

Time: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., with a smudge ceremony with Aboriginal Elders and Mayor Stephen Mandel
scheduled for 11:15 a.m.

Location: Halls A, B & C - Shaw Conference Centre – 9797 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton

This Homeless Connect Edmonton event will feature 60 agencies offering free services and
on-site, staffed childcare.

“We believe it will be an enjoyable, memorable day for all involved - the volunteers, our community of
guests and the agencies supplying services,” says Ione Challborn, Executive Director, Canadian Mental
Health Association, Edmonton Region.

Guests can choose from a range of free services including haircuts and dental care to information
about housing and employment. They will also be offered lunch at no cost.

There may also be opportunities for media to shadow guests and volunteers. If interested, please inquire at the media table located in the centre of Hall B.

Homeless Connect Edmonton is organized by volunteer committees that provide direction and support for the event.
Homeward Trust Edmonton, a not-for-profit organization providing leadership and resources towards ending
homelessness, coordinates the overall work plan and ensures the event aligns with similar Edmonton initiatives.
