2nd annual “Everyone for Edmonton” event goes Sunday, Sept. 20

— Shaw Conference Centre will be transformed into a huge showcase for non-profits

The second annual Everyone for Edmonton happens this Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009 at the Shaw Conference Centre (SCC). Interested media are invited to drop by anytime between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Building on last year’s successes, Sunday at the SCC will feature some 150 wide ranging non-profit groups - from sports and social advocacy to health, education, religion and ethno-cultural organizations.

The event is designed to raise awareness about non-profit and voluntary groups in the Edmonton area and provide the public a chance to meet people behind the causes and find out how to become involved
as volunteers.

To research this wide an array of non-profit organizations individually would take weeks. But on Sunday, in a mere five hours, free of charge, the public can visit the SCC and easily and conveniently peruse organizations of interest under one roof. For those already part of Greater Edmonton’s burgeoning non-profit scene, Everyone for Edmonton has proven to be a fun and effective forum to network with peers.

River Valley and Parks

“The next thing I know, I've discovered a long set of wooden stairs that lead down into a forest. When I come to the bottom, it turns out to be part of the river valley, which is the biggest single green space of any city park anywhere- the river valley is like having 22 interconnected Central Parks right in the middle of your city. There are a few runners and cyclists down here, but the overall feeling is that here is a city where you can, if you want, get completely away from everyone. Then, in 10 minutes, find yourself right back in the middle of the action, without so much as having to park a car.” A Tale of Two Cities – Stephen Hunt, Calgary Herald 07/10/2007
